NICK OVERTON
Director – Costs Lawyer
Nick is a Costs Lawyer who founded OCCL in 2005, having worked in the costs industry since 1986, both in private practice, with a City law firm, and as a founding partner in a City based costs consultancy. He specialises in advising on and resolving complex costs issues and claims, both domestically and internationally, including disputes under the Solicitors Act 1974. He also assists Arbitral Tribunals in relation to the assessment of costs. Nick is registered to practice in the Courts of the DIFC in relation to costs disputes.
PHILIP ROLFE
Costs Lawyer
Philip is a Costs Lawyer with in excess of 30 years’ experience. Philip spent the majority of his career to date in costs at the International Law Firm, Clyde & Co LLP, leaving to join OCCL in early 2015. A substantial part of his time at Clyde & Co was in the role of Head of Costs where he managed a large team across a number of locations. He was also a Legal Director. Philip has a wealth of experience in all aspects of legal costs with particular emphasis on large and complex commercial disputes in a variety of fora, Court and Arbitral and in both domestic and overseas jurisdictions.
MARK VICKERY
Costs Lawyer/Consultant
Mark is a Costs Lawyer with in excess of 35 years’ experience of dealing with all aspects of costs, who has worked closely with OCCL as a Consultant for in excess of 10 years.
David Hill
Costs Lawyer
David is a Costs Lawyer of in excess of 10 years’ experience, having worked both in-house and for external costs agencies. He provides specialist advice on a variety of costs issues and has particular expertise in respect of costs in significant tax litigation, including costs through the Tax Tribunals, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. His practice also has a particular emphasis on large commercial disputes in the Courts and in various arbitral fora, including in the LCIA, ICC and ICSID. David is also regularly instructed in relation to Solicitor Act assessments.
As a Costs Lawyer, David has ‘rights of audience’ and ‘rights to conduct costs litigation’ pursuant to the Legal Service Act 2007.

Thomas McGuinness
Trainee Costs Lawyer
Thomas is a Trainee Costs Lawyer who comes with over a decade of experience in finance and accounts, from a diverse range of industries. He has experience of legal costs in relation to commercial and shipping litigation in both court and arbitration proceedings. He puts his mathematical and analytical background to good use in supporting the assessment and presentation of legal costs. Thomas is currently studying for full accreditation as a Costs Lawyer.
